Hi Mate
I dont know Len Personally, My daughter is friends with his Daughter.

I am happy to ask my daughter to ask Len if he wants to give out his contact details.

He lives in Hemel Hempstead, around a half mile away from us.

All my daughter said to me is that she thought that the band may reform, Not sure if Len is driving it or not.
As soon as hear back I will let you know.

If you are happy to give me a clue to your name or initials, I will pass these on...

Cheers
Sire

Hi Sire
My name is Phil Howstan - hopefully Len will remember me (Geordie with big hair!).
I played drums in the Bears (from Watford) around 1979 - 1981.
Tim from the Commuters also played Bass in the Bears. I also remember having a jam session with the Commuters at one of their rehearsals.
Im just trying to make contact with any Bears/Commuters and take it from there.
Please pass this on to Len if you can and I could swap emails if he wants to make contact.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers....

The Commuters were a great band. Len Watkins still lives in Hemel, I saw him about 6 years ago. I remember the Bear too, was your singer Jon? If so I think my sister lives near him in Hemel Hempstead. I remember seeing the Bears in Watford i cant remember where it was a bit like an art centre. I think one member of the Bears was in my year at school I can see his face but cant remember his name.

Hi Rosie
Yep - John was the singer, George (ex-Wire) was guitar, Tim on Bass and myself on the drums.
We used to play in Watford regularly.
If your sister knows John ask her if she will get John to visit this website as I would love to get in contact again - who knows, we could get the Commuters and the Bears to reform and play a gig !

Hi Phil

I will ask my sister about John. A reunion of both bands would be excellent! Are you not on face book? I think Peter Stanfield might be on there, i'm not sure if he is involved in the Commuters getting back together.

Regards

Hi Phil.
My Daughter has now shot off on Holiday and not left me any details on how to contact Len. :-(
Sorry buddy but will have to hold on for a couple of weeks.

If its been 25 years, maybe 2 more weeks may not hurt.... sooory mate. I will chase again when she is back...

Hi Sire and Jumbojet. I went to 6th form at Cavendish School in Hemel Hempstead with the band members and dated Lu on and off for several years. I was their biggest fan attending every gig in spray on pleather trousers a la Siouxsie Su. As far as I remember the band all lived in Hemel, not Luton. Its so sad to hear about Tim: he was a great guy and very talented. I know the guy who designed the sleeves and am in touch with him still via Facebook. Haven't heard anything about the band being reformed but it would be great if they did. John McKay, also from Cavendish and friends with Lu and the others, joined Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1977 and wrote Hong Kong Gardens. I guess Hemel was home to some real talent!
