Record Store Day - Much Too Late/Another Girl

Record Store Day - Much Too Late/Another Girl

Postby Tom » Tue Mar 26, 2013 12:39 pm

Forgive my ignorance if they're not, but are these new songs?

Noticed the released on the Record Store Day list: http://recordstoreday.co.uk/exclusive-products/2013/

Edit: Scrap that, just seen the description:

Derry punk legends The Undertones release their 15th single (and their first since 2003) as a special strictly limited 7" for Record Store Day 2013. The A-side, Much Too Late, and flip, When It Hurts I Count To Ten, were recorded last month at the world-famous Toe Rag Studios in London (White Stripes, Billy Childish). These two tracks are the first Undertones recordings since their acclaimed album, Dig Yourself Deep, in 2007. In the year of the Good Vibrations movie, celebrating the Belfast label that served as an antidote to The Troubles, the single is a powerful and brilliant reminder of the timeless, unmatchable magic of the 7" vinyl disc. It will be available only on that format on Dublin's Flaming June Records in a strictly limited run of 1,000 copies. Hard to beat...

Hi Hawk. That link seems to no longer work. The new single will also be available from Banquet Records at:

but not it seems until 27th April. A download would be great in due course....

E-mail received earlier today rom news@theundertones.com:

NEW RECORDINGS

It was Damian's idea to make a record although Paul was also talking about doing something for Record Store Day. Damian had a new song and didn't want it to sit on the shelf too long, while Paul has a friend with a small independent record label who specialises in vinyl. Seven inch black vinyl, not as a special edition of a download but a proper single in its own right. I just think it's a nice idea to put out a record that can't just be downloaded in half a second for it to disappear up your hard drive. And to put it out in Derry's year as UK City of Culture, although culture was never something that bothered us before. So, here we have two songs recorded during the first weekend of March in Toe Rag studios in London. Oh yes, that was another reason to do the record - it gave us an excuse to go to see the famous studio that still makes records the old way. The old way being ...you learn the song, you play it as well as you can in front of a set of microphones and then you record it on to eight track tape. That's what we did and had a great time. It was freezing when you went outside the studio but we're from Derry so we don't feel the cold like other people.

The songs are .....
A side, Much Too Late, written by Damian,
B side, When It Hurts I Count To Ten , which is actually a very old song written by John in 1982, discovered on a cassette by Damian and slightly amended by myself and Damian.
Billy and I prefer the b-side, which makes it a proper record that you can argue about with your friends. There are a thousand for sale in independent record shops on April 20th, which is Record Store Day. You don't have to buy all thousand copies by the way. Buy one each and there should be enough for everybody.

Michael Bradley April 2013

Released on the Flaming’ June label. Catalogue Number FL 4505 on Saturday 20th April.

Hey Ötzi,
if I am lucky enough to get the ones I ordered (I ordered at two stores just to be safe) I might have one left which I could send you if you want.
Let me know.
Any contact idea? Fb?
