1st Album...with PAUL????

Postby Sire » Sun Nov 02, 2008 4:45 pm

Question for you all...

I think Paul is an excellent Font-Man live! I might even say, better than FS was live, IMHO (In My Humble Opinion)!!!

....But if The Undertones released Album #1 again with Pauls vocals, would you buy it???

For me, the Albums needs to say with F.S. Thats what bought me into the music 30 years ago...
So for me, I would leave them as they are. They have stood the test of time.... and let Paul concentrate on the new stuff on Disc/Vinyl, and wow us with his live versions of the older records!

Whats your thoughts, would you buy Album #1 with Pauls Vocals????

I definitely would but then I buy everything The Undertones release….

Seriously though, I think it would be very interesting to hear some re-recorded versions of the 1978-83 material with Paul on lead vocals. So far we’ve only heard these songs live and of course very good they sound too. A fully re-recorded 1st album is very unlikely and on balance probably rightly so. But how about putting a re-recorded version of one of the early tunes as an extra track on the next single? If I had to pick one song it would have to be ‘Get Over You’.

Can I just clarify for the record that this is not happening? Nor should it, nor would I even if approached to do so. Which wouldn't happen either...

Fair enough Paul. Things would in all likelihood only end up in a fruitless "Is Paul better than Feargal?" debate which would only wind people up and get us knowhere. We can make do with seeing you sing the older material live and look at the clips on You Tube. :D

I hope that you and the rest of the band are keeping well.

I have to say I agree with Paul 100% - it would be just wrong on so many levels for the band as a unit.

Thanks for the reply Paul.
The topic was simply raised to generate some debate and discussion on the forum.
...and for the record as I stated in my original post, I agree too! It should not happen!

Cheers

The classic first Undertones album is re-released on Monday 2nd March. So how many of you are intending to buy it? I’ve already got the two versions of the album on glorious vinyl as well as the Castle CD version released back in 2000. I could understand it if some people’s reaction was to say “I’ve got all the tracks so I don’t need to buy this”. However, I’ll be snapping up a copy because a) it’s a dead cert that Mickey’s sleeve notes will justify the price alone and b) for some still unexplained reason my CD does not include the original (better?) version of ‘Here Comes The Summer’ - contrary to the track listing. I’ll probably try and sell my existing CD to someone at work who is currently sadly unfamiliar with The Undertones music in order to further their education….
